Trash Pickup:
Trash, Compost and Recycling pickup is provided WEEKLY, however, in some communities Compost and/or Recycling may be provided on a bi-weekly basis. Please check the calendars in your local community section by clicking on My Community in the My Municipalities menu on our Home page.

All materials should be set at the curb by 7 a.m. at the latest on the scheduled day of pickup.
Containers should not weigh more than fifty (50) lbs. each. If they feel heavy to you, they will be heavy for our operators, as they have to lift about 500 per day.

Holidays:
If your scheduled pickup day falls on or after those listed below, your scheduled pickup day will be one (1) day later than normal.

If a holiday falls on a weekend your scheduled pickup day will not change even if the holiday falls on a Sunday and the following Monday is observed nationally.

Pickups are to be completed before 5 pm on most days. Regular pick-ups are never to occur on Saturdays or Sundays (only in West Bloomfield).
Holidays observed are:

  • New Year's Day
  • Memorial Day
  • July 4th
  • Labor Day
  • Thanksgiving Day
  • Christmas Day

Yard Waste Information:
Yard waste collection is from April 1-November 30 (except in West Bloomfield which runs from April 1 – the second week in December).
However, please check by clicking on My Community in the My Municipalities box on the Home page for community Calendar as some communities have extended dates.

Place yard waste in brown Kraft bags (No compost will be accepted in plastic bags) or in a container clearly marked "Yard Waste". Bundles and each container must weigh under 50 pounds. Please keep the weight down and be considerate of your waste service operators as they have to lift about 500 containers each day.
Branches with diameters ranging between 0 and 2" in diameter to must be cut down to lengths of four (4') feet and tied in bundles.
Large tree limbs, that is, those greater than 2" but less than 4" in diameter, may be set out with the trash as they cannot be composted.
Branches are chipped for re-use as mulch at the landfill.
Christmas trees will be picked up during the month of January.

Large Items:
In communities where we do NOT provide a large item recycling program you may set out one large item each quarter with no prior notice.
If you have many large items, please notify us ahead of your scheduled collection day. In some cases It MAY be necessary to schedule two collection days .
There's no charge for this service.

In the communities that are part of the Rewards for Recycling program we would ask that you click the Large Item Recycling Icon. We are introducing a special new program, commencing in the second and third quarters of 2010, whereby all your large items will be either re-used wherever possible, or otherwise recycled. Please support this program as it is important that those that are fortunate enough to be able to discard items of value donate them for re-use by the less fortunate members of our R4R communities.

Rewards for Recycling is an affinity program that is designed to increase recycling within your community. All the residents who choose to be serviced by Richfield Equities will be able to join. Once you sign up at the web site and become a member you will be able to access a number of Rewards and Promotions offered to by local merchants. If you set out a recycling bin our recycling truck will detect it and you will automatically become an Active Member of the program. All the Active members are able to access a second level of more valuable Rewards and Promotions that are also provided by local merchants. Hopefully, the possibility of obtaining these more valuable second tier Rewards will encourage other community members to begin setting out a recycling bin, thereby improving participation levels within your community. A separate mailer, with an access code to direct you to your preformatted account in the Rewards system, will be sent out immediately prior to system start up.

Please visit the Reward for Recycling website at RewardsforRecycling.com to see the many opportunities there to save money and help support your local business community.
